From Co. Wexford, Ireland, Mary O’Brien writes in English and Irish. Her poetry has been published in journals countrywide and shortlisted in many competitions. She has published 5 poetry collections. She has also written short stories and was shortlisted for the 2016 Francis MacManus Short Story Competition.
She was the winner of the Irish Language poetry prize, Duais Fhoras na Gaeilge 2017, at Listowel Writers’ Week. She has been the recipient of Arts Grants and Bursaries, more recently from Artlinks, Co. Wexford, to develop her work in the Irish language. Her first collection in the Irish language was published by Coiscéim, Dublin, in 2019.

Tá gearrscéalta scríofa aici freisin, agus cuireadh ar an ngearrliosta í le haghaidh an Francis MacManus Short Story Competition 2016. Bhuaigh sí Duais Fhoras na Gaeilge 2017 ag Seachtain na Scríbhneoirí i Lios Tuathail . Bhuaigh sí Sparánacht Artlinks (Loch Garman) i 2016 agus 2017 chun forbairt a chur ar a cuid saothair as Gaeilge. Foilsíodh Ré na n-Úll (Coiscéim) i 2019.
